September 2017 – President’s Message

President’s Message

Letter from the President

Judging by the school-bus-choked morning commute, school is once again back in session. We’ve said goodbye to our summer interns and there’s even a hint of a chill in the air to remind us that summer is over. If you’re like me, you’re also welcoming some new graduates to your office. I’m going to ask you once again to step up and be a role model for the new IE’s in your company. Even if they’re not so new, autumn is a great time to encourage recent grads to consider getting involved in IISE. Did you know that the chapter will pay for half of a new grad’s first year dues? New grads might not have much money (yet), but we don’t want that to be a barrier to making the transition from a student to a professional member. So, the next time you pass by the new IE’s desk, stop in and encourage them to follow in your professional footsteps and join IISE at half of the normal cost.   Our calendar for the fall is jam-packed. We have two technical meetings later this month with dynamite speakers. One is downtown and the other is at George Mason University, so there’s probably one near you. Be sure to take advantage of one or both of them. And if you do, why not encourage that recent grad to join you and discover the value of IISE professional membership.
