IIE NatCap SWE Capitol Hill Day 2014 – March 5th & 6th

On behalf of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), the National Capital Chapter is looking for members interested in attending the “Diversity and Inclusion Fuels Innovation in STEM” Capitol Hill Day on Wednesday, March 5 and Thursday, March 6. At the following link is the preliminary agenda for the two-day event organized by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), which will be held in Washington, D.C.


If you are available on Wednesday, March 5 and Thursday, March 6, please email The registration deadline is Tuesday, February 18. Ideally, IIE participants are available both days. As laid out in the attached agenda, day one begins at lunch and concludes with a Congressional reception and day two is a Congressional breakfast followed by Congressional visits (scheduled ahead of time). The attending participants representing IIE will be responsible for scheduling the visits with Congressional Representatives. SWE can provide resources on how to schedule Congressional visits.

So far, 31 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and diversity organizations are co-sponsoring this event, including IIE. This two-day event prepares you to speak to Congressional Representatives on promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM education. While there are a number of successful science and technology advocacy days on Capitol Hill, none focus solely on the need to strengthen the diversity of the STEM workforce.
