Members in the News – Dr. Jeffrey Fernandez

May 10, 2012—The Washington Academy of Sciences presented the Award of Merit and Distinction in Engineering Sciences to Dr. Jeffrey Fernandez during its annual meeting and banquet in Arlington, Va. This award recognizes Jeff’s distinguished career in engineering sciences, in particular for his significant contributions to industrial engineering research, education, professional practice, and national as well as international service to the industrial engineering profession.

Jeff is the Founder, Owner, and Managing Principal of JFAssocicates, a small business, headquartered in Northern Virginia. JFAssociates provides engineering and scientific consulting services to fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and law firms.

The Academy has honored distinguished Washington-area scientists since 1940. As an award recipient, Jeff joins a group that includes such luminaries as Harry Diamond, Lewis Branscomb, Maxine Singer, W. Edwards Deming, Jesse Bernard, and Nobelists William D. Phillips and John Mather.

Founded in 1898, the Washington Academy of Sciences was an affiliation of eight Washington D.C. area scientific societies. The founders included Alexander Graham Bell and Samuel Langley, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. The Academy’s purpose is to encourage the advancement of science and to conduct, endow, or assist investigation in any department of science.
