2015 Gold Award – IISE National Capital!

Submitted by Joe Scheibeler, Chapter CAR Director

For the eleventh year in a row, the National Capital Chapter has earned the Gold Award. The award for the chapter’s 2015 activities will be presented at the IISE Annual Conference in Anaheim next month. The criteria for the award is grouped into 5 categories totaling 100 possible points as described below with a minimum of 80 points required for the Gold Award.

  • Plans and Operations: The chapter earned 15 of 15 points by holding monthly board meetings and submitting the chapter’s 2015 Plan in January 2015.
  • Chapter Programs (19 of 20 points): Nine chapter programs received excellent evaluations by those who attended and both member and non-member attendance increased over the previous year.
  • Membership Communications, Growth and Retention (22 of 25 points): Full credit was earned by the chapter newsletter and membership retention and recruitment activities, including first-year memberships, but a 5% decrease in total membership caused zero credit for “membership growth.”
  • Student Outreach/Support (17 of 20 points): Partial credit was earned for student conference participation and support. Full credit was earned for scholarship contributions and we earned full credit for “community affairs participation” and “other student outreach” which included local participation in Engineer’s Week, science and career fairs, Future City and collaboration with other technical organizations such as DCCEAS, WAS, WINFORMS, SWE Capitol Hill Day and our student chapter at Morgan State Univ.
  • Member/Chapter/Institute Support (10 of 20 points): The chapter fulfilled some of the varied IISE requirements except it didn’t report chapter activities or members’ news in local publications or reimburse members’ involvement in specific IISE national leadership roles. We got credit for member participation in regional and national IISE leadership positions and IISE-sponsored activities such as the National Conference, and VOLT.
